Real nice, yet subtly redundant

This song must be intended for a scene of sorts, as it has a common theme going on throughout the entire song, as if to suggest all the action revolves around one main thing.

Really like the guitars! They (along with the key) make me think of Power Rangers. Yeah, it's perhaps understood that the longer the song the longer it can take to finalize a song.

Nice work on the guitar solo, a little variation, though not much. The piano helps bring a bit of brightness to the situation. It's kind of neat how aside from the repetitiveness of the overall theme, it still has potential for someone to listen to it in full.

Drums seem to suggest the action parts of the scene, which are here and there, often many "breaks" in the song from it.

All in all, it sounds quite all right.

thanks! I worked really hard to make sure everything made sense musically to me... I'm not quite sure what I should do with the drum pattern with the cowbell/ride through it... It doesn't feel right for what ever reason.

any way, thanks for this review! I can understand how it can be a bit repetitive most of the way through, but I thought that I should play it safe by not venturing to far out of the main picture... the piano was extremely hard to make for this though, with all the notes playing at once.

I'm kind of depressed now though, since I appear to have been zero bombed at some point.

any way, if you like this, you should check out goukisan's stuff (if you haven't already) as that's where the inspiration for this came from (mainly guitar vs piano and the battle loop)

anyways, thanks for the review FTA.

All Aboard the Demoscene Train!

For some reason, I don't know what, but I tend to feel like I'm standing at a train station when I hear the clanging noises. Then I feel like I've gone on aboard, and I'm listening to music that sounds reminiscent of the style a number of demoscene artists have in their work. The retro-quality sounding electronic instruments really give me the impression that this was practically done on a soundtracker.

It probably wasn't, but I like the sound. I hope one day that demoscene will become a genre here on NG one day (given that everyone actually uses a tracker, when they contribute to *that* genre!).

Your experimental mix is profound!

You have practically merged classical with hip-hop to a T (at least these are the two I believe you're merging together).

I initially thought the rhythms didn't change much, but actually there is a good handful of variation. The intro to the end really does define the title. It's like being somewhere and people are lurking about everything they see.

Your explanation is very direct and to the point, something I could barely do myself! The VST you have for orchestral use appear to do something I needed TWO VSTs to get (solo violin, rest of orchestra, >_<).

I think that so far, your tune may be more deservingly used for the intro and as a playable track in the new version of the game, I think even moreso than what I've got up here! It's full of subtle changes, almost never boring, and its nearly addictive in its sound.

Keep up the good work, d00d.

The Lost Ridge Racer Song

That's what I think of when I hear this. Dissonant chords aren't for everyone, but it's good to hear them used well. Riiiiiiiiiidge Racerrrrrrrrrrrrr! Hoscoe-san and Sanodg would be proud.

So you're the original composer of this song?

kingj4life3 responds:

Yes, yes I am. Why do you ask?

Sounds familiar....

It sounds very much like the music featured in the in-game intro scene of a certain Dreamcast game I have my eyes on getting in the future. Shoji Meguro would be proud.

Sweet beats! Super chord progressions!

The whole compositon of this sounds like it was heavily influenced by Japanese composers like Nobuyoshi Sano and Shoji Meguro. Perhaps the game may have an anime-like influence to it along the lines of Ghost in the Shell and/or Shin Megami Tensei?

Garoad responds:

I'm very glad you noticed. I pretty much grew up listening to Japanese composers from anime and video game series. Their particular style of composing is almost ingrained in me. My major influences are from Shinji Hosoe, Ayako Saso, Shoji Meguro, and Kenji Kawai.

My fondness for DnB grows ever fonder!

I like the breakbeats, and the piano. What's real DnB without piano? It does have a feel to it like you're playing it in a video game.

The progressions of the synths make me only really think of the Dark Element battle from Dark Cloud 2, though that's probably not what you were going for.

Thre aren't a lot of games whose battles I know of feature a dnb rhythm section. In that case, I'd see the Armada battle theme from Skies of Arcadia, more fitting.

Indeed,it is cold!

This is really nice stuff. It has some nice beats and melodies and whatnot. In a way its like a way to warm up to a cold wintry day.

The trance synths (or at least that's what I call them), sounded like they were telling everyone to get up and dance old man winter away.

Best of luck, SK!

Daydream-Anatomy responds:

Thanks, glad it had that feeling I was trying to capture:3

Nice work!

I'm not to keen on dubstep, but this work sounds really good. I thank you again for that advice on making the wobble bass on my thread, it's real neat.

Is that BitCrusher you used on the drums?

Just a person that one day looks forward to making music for games.
